Thinking about Japanese watercolors, the negative space, the time I read the little piece Thoreau wrote about picking and eating a crab apple on a cold day, Tacitus says of the ancient Germans, that they satisfied their hunger with wild apples. That beautiful day with my daughter on that old farm in Pennsylvania.
